Do Kegel Exercises Work?

MIAMI, PALM BEACH AND DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA – It is likely that you have heard of the Kegel exercise, but you may not know how important it is for your pelvic muscles.
A Kegel exercise, also known as pelvic floor exercises, strengthens the muscles surrounding your vagina, bladder and bowel. The plus side of this workout: it can be done anywhere, anytime because no one will be able to see you doing your Kegel exercises.

“This is a great workout if you’re pregnant, or already gave birth,” says Dr. Mark Scheinberg, a Florida vaginoplasty expert. “It also has some benefits if you’re suffering from stress incontinence.”
Pregnancy, childbirth, aging and weight fluctuations can all weaken the pelvic floor muscles. The muscles may start to descend, which is part of vaginal prolapse. Pelvic floor exercises can put off or reduce vaginal organ prolapse and other related symptoms.

“More than 30 million women suffer from conditions related to a weakened pelvic floor,” says Miami labioplasty specialist Dr. Scheinberg. “Kegel exercises can help strengthen these muscles.”
